This course will equip those wishing to work with very young children between the ages of 2 months and 18 months with the knowledge and competencies for their effective care and management.

Students who successfully complete all modules will be awarded the Certificate in Infant and Toddler Care and Development by Learning Capital College.

Programme Objectives

  • Reflect on and apply their knowledge of child development theories and care principles in a variety of situations and circumstances
  • Examine current child development knowledge and understand their interrelated developmental sequence of physical, emotional, cognitive and social growth of infants and toddlers
  • Practice the skills of observations to help ascertain a child's educare needs and requirements
  • Develop an understanding of the principles of developmentally appropriate learning experiences and environments for infants and toddlers in their care and be able to apply this knowledge
  • Work with families in a meaningful way in the care and education of their infants and toddlers

Module 3 : Environmental Design for Supporting Infant/Toddler Programmes

  • Types of equipment and location
  • Physical setting (indoors/ outdoors)
  • Conditions fostering safety and health

Module 4 : Safety, Health and Nutrition

  • Necessities of a healthy infant/toddler day care centre
  • Nutritional needs
  • Safety conditions
  • Disease and infections affecting infants and toddlers
  • Feeding procedures for infants and toddlers
  • Infants at risk

Module 5 : Working with Families

  • Understanding expectations of parents
  • Role of families
  • Partnership and effective communication

Module 6 : Supervised Practicum

Course Duration And Delivery

The course comprises of 6 modules conducted over 100 classroom hours and 60 practicum hours.
